Mrs. Susie Mae Atwell, 91 of Gough, GA. entered into eternal rest on Saturday June 20, 2020 at University Hospital, Augusta, GA. Graveside service will be held on Saturday June 27, 2020 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Rock Creek Baptist Church 151 Rocky Creek Church Rd. Waynesboro, GA. 30830. Visitation will be held on Friday June 26, 2020 from 1:00 pm-7:00 pm.

A TIME TO BE BORN: Susie Mae Jenkins Atwell was born on October 16, 1928, in Gough, Georgia, to her parents, late King Jake and Mattie Lee Smith Jenkins. Susie Mae was the youngest of three siblings, John Jenkins and Alvin Jenkins. A TIME TO LIVE: Susie was reared in Burke County, Georgia, and educated in the Burke County Public School System. At a very early age, Susie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined and became a faithful member at the Antioch Rock Creek Baptist Church. She was employed with the Burke County Board of Education for twenty years in the Food Service Department. She enjoyed going to the Burke County Senior Center until her health failed. Susie Mae joined in holy matrimony with the late David Atwell, Sr., and to this union, nine children were born: five boys and four girls. A TIME TO LEAVE: In addition to her parents and her husband, Susie was preceded in death by her two brothers, John and Alvin Jenkins, and her eldest daughter, Eula Mae Jenkins on June 20, 2020. A TIME TO MOURN: Those left behind to cherish Susie’s loving memory are: her eight children, John (Dorothy) Jenkins of Atlanta, GA, Deloris J. Jenkins of Gough, GA, Gloria (Keith) McDonald of Hampton, GA, David (Mabeline) Atwell of Gough, Georgia, Pauline Atwells of Hephzibah, GA, Paul Atwell of Gough, Georgia, Tony (Sonia) Atwell of Waynesboro, GA and Tyrone (Deborah) Atwell of McDonough, GA; stepdaughter, Ruth (Donald) Stephens of Tifton, GA; two stepsons, James Smith of Gough, GA and Kelvin (Julia) Brown of Waynesboro, GA; fifteen grandchildren and eighteen greatgrandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
