Deacon Sterling Wimberly was born on October 30, 1947, to the late Milton Steed and Annie Mae Sims in Augusta, GA. Sterling was the eldest of four siblings. He was preceded in death by his brother Ike Sims.Mr. Sterling entered into eternal rest on March 18, 2020 at the MUSC in Charleston, SC. Sterling was a faithful member and deacon of Noah’s Ark Missionary Baptist Church. He attended the Richmond County School System before relocating to Waynesboro, Burke County and attending Waynesboro High & Industrial School Class of 1965.
Sterling joined the United States Army Reserve 319th Transportation Company and then served in the Vietnam War (1968-1969). Sterling attended Paine College in Augusta, GA. earning his bachelors degree in psychology. He worked for Burke Recreation, Burke County Sheriff Department, Boggs Academy, McDonald’s BFL Operator, Walton Option and finally serving his community as Burke County Chief Magistrate Judge for 12 years. Mr. Sterling leaves to cherish his memories: loving wife Fannie, his devoted children Sterling (Karen), Xavier (Glenda) and Sasha Wimberly , eight children Sterling (Tony), Donnesha, Durante, Xavier Jr., Jamaree, Stephon (Destinee), Xavion and Kaileigh , two great- grandchildren Zuri and Jamaree and host of other relatives and friends. Celebration of Life was held on Saturday March 21, 2020 12:00 p.m. at Noah’s Ark Missionary Baptist Church 4466 GA Hwy 80 West Keysville, GA. with Pastor Karlton Howard. Interment Pines Cemetery.
