Ms. Margaret Saulsberry Dent, 72, entered peacefully into eternal rest on February 8,
2025. She was born on May 17, 1952, the only child of the late Peter Saulsberry and
the youngest child of Aszree Freeman Williams.
Margaret spent her early childhood years in Lincolnton and Hephzibah, Georgia,
attending Floyd Graham School before moving to Hyde Park. She later attended T.W.
Josey High School, where she graduated in 1970.
In 1976, Margaret earned her associate degree in nursing from Augusta College. While
pursuing her education, she worked as a waitress at Brewster to support herself. She
firmly believed in the importance of tipping and never missed an opportunity to share
that lesson with others.
Margaret’s nursing career began at the VA Hospital, where she met Charles Dent. They
married on April 5, 1980, and from this union, three children were born. Though their
marriage ended in divorce, Margaret remained devoted to her family.
A woman of faith, Margaret was an active member of Tremont Temple Baptist Church
before later joining True Vine Missionary Baptist Church, where she faithfully served on
the Health Care Ministry.
Throughout her distinguished 41-year nursing career, Margaret worked at multiple
medical facilities, including University Hospital, VA Hospital, Trinity Hospital, Aiken
Regional, Aurora Pavilion, Burke County Hospital, and Gracewood. She spent over 20
years at University Hospital before embarking on a decade-long career as a travel
nurse, working in at least ten different states. Among her many assignments, Alaska
was one of her favorites. Upon returning home, she joined Select Specialty Hospital
until her retirement in 2017.
After retiring, Margaret moved to St. John Towers, where she quickly became a beloved
and active member of the community. Never one to sit still, she joined the choir and
played a key role in participating in community events, including the Black History
Program scheduled for later this week.
