Kip Ledwell Obituary

Kip Christopher Ledwell peacefully transitioned into an eternal life with God at Washington
Hospital in Washington D.C. on June 3, 2020 at the age of 58. He was born on August 5, 1961 to
the late Roberta Walker Ledwell and James Willie Ledwell of New York. He was also preceded in
death by his brothers Lloyd Walker and Curry Philpot.
At an early age, Kip accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior at Beech Branch Baptist in
Sardis Georgia. He attended SGA High School in Sardis Georgia and later enlisted in the United
States Army in August 1979. He served his country honorably for 3 years and received an
Honorable Discharge in August 1982. After serving his country, he worked in various
occupational specialties including supply, logistics and computer data base systems.
He was a gentle and compassionate man with a lovely smile who loved socializing with others
and making them laugh. He had a true passion for sports and enjoyed going to live baseball
games as well as watching the games on television. He was also an advocate of keeping up with
the daily news and current world events.
Although his illness limited his quality of life in many ways, he never asked for much and always
upheld the highest spirit and greeted everyone with kindness and a smile. And most of all, he
never complained and accepted his illness for what it was in silence.
Kip leaves to cherish his life, love and spirit: his wife Calender Freeman of Houston Texas, his
son Marsellis Laron Ledwell of Maryland. Eight Sisters, Lois Walker Rouse of Waynesboro GA,
Maple Louise Walker of Fargo North Dakota, Patricia Hayes of Greensboro NC, Lynda (Harold)
Johnson of Philadelphia Pennsylvania, Patricia (Ayal) Salame of Harrisburg Pennsylvania, Tara
Ledwell of Philadelphia, Tanya Ledwell Robinson of Philadelphia, Tamiko Carter of Philadelphia
and a dear, sweet, caring and loving friend for eternity Ms. Robin Marston of Fort Washington
Maryland. Four Brothers, Tony (Donna) Ledwell of Stafford VA, Terrence Ledwell (Elizabeth) of
Philadelphia, Lewis (Bernice) Washington of Augusta GA, and James Ledwell Jr of Phoenix
Arizona, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends who will remember him as an
awesome, wonderful and fun-loving man.
A viewing will be held on Friday, 12 June 2020 from 3 – 7 pm at Chavous Johnson and Reid
